John spent 15 years at sea with Chevron Tankships (UK), Texaco/Regent Tankers
and London & Overseas Freighters, from APPRENTICE up to MASTER. He served
as CHIEF OFFICER and MASTER, on a range of Crude Oil and Product tankers
(18,000 to 276,000 tonnes) from 1970 to 1975.
He came ashore in 1976 and served as MOORING MASTER, ASSISTANT and MARINE
SUPERINTENDENT at FLOTTA OIL TERMINAL up until December 1994. During the
period 1982 to 1994 John had overall responsibility for managing marine
operations at the terminal. This responsibility included planning and directing
operations for loading crude oil and gas tankers.
During the period 1995 to present John has been a consultant advising on,
and undertaking, numerous assignments covering ship-to-ship transfers, oil
pollution and competency training, ship vetting, SMS and internal audits,
refinery and terminal auditing.
He specialises in marine terminal safety and operational
audits.
